Fragment 1 - Begun May 4 2006

Musical maze

We are somnabulists in a musical maze
While our eyes seek our ears lead away
While our ears align our hearts flutter

We know the way is the wayless journey
But to stand still will never slake our thirst

Mercury wings stir to the heady scent
Of orchids sown in forgotten pasts

Your promises and mine mingle in the mist
They dance as butterflies while we wander

I speak into a luminous chasm
I hope you hear. I ask my Witness to float
my messages into your tremulous sleep

As nests of orchids and wandering deer
As the abundance of our first garden

As the taste of melons drenched in honey
and the skyfulls of kites of your childhood

As a tune released from a neglected lute.

As the solitary star in this twilight haze

As your cherished dream, rocked on a swing
Through an ageless, conjugal air

As the few fond glimpses of you through innumerable lives

As the opal rays cast from your being on strange faces
My heart's response to them in the solitary night
Is now a jealous echo, now a soundless tear

These are the threads I weave
Into the fleeting weft of moments
For my gift to you of lonely song.

Fragment 2 - Begun May 3 2006

The meeting

The skies changed on my way to meet you
Invisible to laughing eyes, behind the sun,
An innocuous cloud showed you your tears

The crack of its serendipitous thunder
I never heard ~ it was quiet day less the sonourous
memory of your voice, from when we last spoke

The way the storm flashed and throttled that fading hour
into momentary day ~ my eyes missed that moment.
They were far away, dreaming your arrival on the night

That cloud, a wineskin of your tears and our fates
Who pierced it open on my way to meet you,
and coloured the day with this violet rain?
